Malèna | Trailer, VFX Shots and Visual Effects Supervision

Official trailer

This page features the official trailer and a selection of VFX shots from Malèna, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore — one of the most iconic and visually refined Italian films of the early 2000s.

I contributed to this project as both VFX Supervisor and Visual Effects Line Producer for Interactive Milano. My responsibilities included overseeing the creative and technical execution of the VFX work, coordinating the team, and managing both timeline and budget throughout production and post-production.

Selected scenes

A significant part of the VFX work involved the digital removal of the teenage peach fuzz from the young lead actor’s upper lip. This effect required precise and subtle work to ensure the character’s face appeared natural and consistent with his physical development, without looking artificial or overdone.

Additionally, in several sequences, it was necessary to multiply background extras to enrich the scene, creating more crowded environments or adding people to specific contexts. This task demanded careful integration of digital extras, ensuring proper lighting and proportional accuracy to maintain the illusion of reality.

The selected shots reflect subtle but essential visual effects, including digital restoration and seamless enhancements to historical scenes — always aligned with the director’s cinematic vision and style.
